As with any new place you visit, the best way to learn about an area is to stroll, looking and listening as you go.
Kyoto is perfect for that. This piece was from an original photograph of an everyday urban scene where space had been converted to city parking lots, when I saw colour, patterns, shapes and shadows converge as a composition.
