In Hope Valley at Bamford, the dam at Ladybower Reservoir is a significant structure with a rich history. It was built between 1935 and 1943 and is famous for being the practice target for the daring Dam Busters 617 Squadron prior to their raid on German dams in May 1943.
I sketched this whilst standing on the dam. In the foreground is one of two Water Outlet Towers, and one of two totally enclosed bellmouth spillway overflows known as the "plugholes."
Graphite and colour fineliner on paper
18.5×18.9cm // 30×30cm with antique white mount
