We used to travel to St Just in Cornwall every summer for our holidays when the children were young, and created some fantastic memories. I would make the occasional quick sketch or line drawing to record some of those memories.
Tin mining in Cornwall has a rich history dating back to the Bronze Age, playing a vital role in the region’s economy and cultural identity until the late 20th Century.
You would spot tin mine ruins all over Cornwall - sometimes shrouded by fog in the early morning or as a ghostly silhouette in the half-light of dusk. I was always moved by them.
Gouache and soft pastels on card
18.7×17.8cm // 30×29.3 with misty grey mount
Unframed
