Himeji Castle is the largest and most visited castle in Japan. Dating back to 1333 , it is considered one of Japan’s three premier castles and has survived many wars and earthquakes. It is also known as Shirasagi-jō (“White Heron Castle”) because of its brilliant white exterior and resemblance to the bird taking flight.
