The Torii Gate at the Heian-Jingu Shinto Shrine, Sakyó-ku in Kyoto, Japan.
The scale of this structure made me feel like I was on the set of some 1950’s religious film epic so I created a semi-abstract piece with a black & white tweed leading up to the giant red gate framed by the bright blue sky.
Acrylic spray paint using stencils, Indian ink with acrylic pens on 300gsm watercolour paper
21×29.5cm // 30×40cm with charcoal black mount
Unframed
